FINCHLEY produced an excellent run chase to claim a four-wicket win at Brondesbury in the top flight of the Kingspan Middlesex County Cricket League on Saturday.
A high-scoring encounter saw Brondesbury post a total of 268-4 from their 50 overs, but Finchley also enjoyed the excellent batting conditions and were able to reach 272-6 with exactly one over to spare.
The hosts wasted little time in piling on the runs after electing to bat first as James Overy (47) and Ali Raza (36) added 74 for the first wicket.
Runs continued to flow at an ever increasing rate as the innings progressed, with Nick Jones making 65 while Finn Allen – who helped him to add 104 for the third wicket – smashed 77 off just 45 balls to put Brondesbury in a strong position. Brad Chemaly (3-42) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
Joe Barrett helped Finchley to get off to a flying start by hitting 21 off 12 balls and Phil Hughes (40) and Chemaly (62) maintained the momentum by adding 65 for the second wicket.
Chemaly and Sumeet Sharma (41) then joined in a third-wicket stand of 68 before the pair were both run out in quick succession to bring the outcome back into the balance.
But Thomas Powe (38) and Jake Milton (36 not out) ensured that there was to be no collapse by adding 58 for the fifth wicket to take them close to their target and the visitors ended up chasing their target to perfection as they secured a third win in five matches to climb above Brondesbury into fifth place in the table.
