Two hurt after explosion at Haringey house as cops arrive to assist bailiffs

A man suffered serious burns and a police officer was injured after an explosion at a terraced house in Haringey this lunchtime.

The blast is believed to have happened as police officers arrived to assist bailiffs who had been attending the address in Stapleton Hall Road, Stroud Green.

The basement of the property is currently ablaze , with part of the ground floor and a garden shed also alight. More than 70 firefighters are tackling the fire.

All occupants of the house have been evacuated, but it is not believed to have affected neighbouring properties.

A police spokesman said:”At this early stage, police are aware of two people injured. One man has sustained serious burns, and a police officer sustained an arm injury. We await further details.

Ten pumps attended with fire crews from Hornsey, Stoke Newington, Kentish Town, Holloway and other surrounding stations.

The cause of fire is unknown. No arrests have been made.
