DELE ALLI believes that opposing teams are starting to fear coming to play at White Hart Lane as a result of Tottenham Hotspur’s fantastic record at the ground.
Spurs crushed Watford 4-0 on Saturday to record their 11th consecutive home league win, equalling the third best sequence of home league victories in the club’s history.
And Alli, who once again got on the scoresheet over the weekend, is excited by their excellent form – believing that the experience the side gained in their ultimately unsuccessful tilt for the title last season will stand them in good stead in the run-in this time around.
“Teams are going to be scared to come to White Hart Lane,” he said. “We’ve been unreal here. We’re all enjoying what we’re doing and that’s important.
“We’ve learned a lot from last season. We know we can’t get drawn too much into things, we just have to keep doing what we’re doing and make sure we win our games.
“We were very clincal. When you’ve played like that it gives the team a huge boost. It was a fantastic performance from everyone, and I don’t just mean the players on the pitch.
“The staff and the crowd were fantastic. They drove us on and gave us the confidence that we could go on after the first goal and get more goals.”
Tottenham were initially frustrated by Watford, but Alli’s stunning opener on 33 minutes – a curling effort from distance – opened the floodgates and further fine goals from Eric Dier and Son Heung-Min put them in complete control by half-time.
Son added a fourth after the interval and Spurs received a further huge boost when star striker Harry Kane made his return from injury as a second-half substitute.
And Dier was full of praise for Alli, hailing the dramatic progress that the attacking midfielder has made this season.
“We needed a goal to get us off the mark, and to be fair it was a great strike,” he said. “Dele’s doing really well this season.
“He’s come on leaps and bounds from the last campaign, which is extremely impressive considering the season he had last year, so I’m really happy for him to get another goal.
“We didn’t start very well and that was disappointing. We need to start well against these teams and not give them any confidence. I think we were a bit sloppy to begin with but from when Dele scored onwards we were very comfortable and we seemed to be enjoying playing.
“I would have like to have scored more goals this season, so to get two in three games is very nice and I’m very happy with it.
“It was great to get the second goal so quickly after we scored the first and from them on we just needed to keep playing in the same way.”
