Dirty pub in Winchmore Hill ordered to fork out hefty fine

By Clare Casey in Local People

A DIRTY pub that failed to clean up its act when health inspectors went calling the first time has been handed a “hefty fine” after a second visit revealed nothing had changed.

The Queen’s Head, in Station Road, Winchmore Hill, has been ordered to fork out £7,510 in fines and costs after it was prosecuted for hygiene failings by Enfield Council at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on March 2.

Bitz Enterprises Ltd, the owners of the pub, pleaded guilty to four charges under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

A food safety inspector from Enfield Council visited the pub in November 2015 and served hygiene improvement notices on the owners instructing the establishment to tackle problems relating to food safety management, food hygiene training and using an unsuitable area for food preparation.

An extension of time for compliance was granted, but a subsequent inspection in March 2016 found that they had failed to fully tackle the problems.

Enfield council’s cabinet member for environment, Daniel Anderson, said:

“This establishment was given ample opportunity to clean up its act and simply did not do so, even though they were granted extra time to get things right.

“We do not want to prosecute food businesses, but when we are left with no choice we will act firmly and decisively to protect the public from the risk of harm.

“When residents eat out, they expect chefs to be following proper safety guidelines and preparing food in clean hygienic conditions that are fit for purpose. Sadly, this was not happening in this case and the failure to get their food hygiene right has cost the Queen’s Head a hefty fine.”

The pub is now considering appealing.

I haven't tasted such a good food in my area. Love the steaks, friendly staff. The pub is old but not dirty at all.

this article disgusts me. the food in the queens head is some of the best in london, let alone enfield. i have a steak in here at least three times a month and have never been disappointed! i would urge anyone who appreciates good food to come and eat at the queens head. any of you who have the time to reseach the backdrop to this case will be astonished at the incredible waste of public money which has been been spent off the back of a highly emotive local authority officer's report.
